Our Farm Visit

Today we visited a dairy farm at Tauwhare.  The farmers, Dave van den Beuken and Jenny Buckley and their workers showed us around their cowshed, we saw cows being milked and got to feel the suction inside the milking cups.  A milk tanker arrived while we were there and we saw how the big hose connects from the truck to the milk vat so that the milk can be transported back to the dairy factory.  Jenny showed us a fresian and a jersey calf and talked to us about how they get fed on the 'calfateria'.  One of the workers drove the tractor into the huge feed bin so that we could see how the cows are fed some of their food.  We also learnt that they eat the grass in the paddocks and then the farmers leave the paddock empty for 21 days so that the grass can grow again for the cows to feed.

Have a look at our pic collages that we put together of what we saw...

Team 1 Cross Country

On Friday afternoon we ran in our team cross country.  Our Year 7 & 8 buddies from Room 20 and Mrs Higby set up our course for us which ran down into the gully and around the main field, they also stayed with us and supported us as we ran around the course.  We ran in 4 groups, 5 year old girls, 5 year old boys, 6 & 7 year old girls and 6 & 7 year boys.  We all had so much fun.  Some parents and our teachers were also there to help and support us.

We are learning to spell the OW sound...

In groups we found items and pictures around the classroom with the 'ow' sound.  We took photographs using the iPads and then created pic collages to show our sound.

Team 1 Neon Disco

As you will see in these pics we had so much fun at last week's Team 1 Neon Disco. We dressed up in bright neon colours, danced and had lots of fun together. Thank you to the parents who organised and made this happen for us.  It was awesome!
